Special Substance Testing

Information about our testing services for a variety of indoor or outdoor contaminants

The process of testing the air, surfaces, specific objects, water, or soil at a property to determine if a particular substance is present is known as special substance testing.

Special substance testing can be confused with indoor air quality testing. The difference is with indoor air quality testing, the air is being examined to determine if any contaminants are reducing the air quality indoors and risking the health of occupants. With special substance testing, the substances being tested for may be present in the air, on surfaces, on objects, in the drinking water, or in the soil of a property. These contaminants can still pose a health risk, but they aren’t just a risk to the air. Also, with special substance testing, there is a much larger list of possible contaminants to test for.

We refer to this testing as special substance testing, but this family of testing includes testing for a wide variety of organic and inorganic substances. While we might test for the radioactive byproduct of the uranium deposing process known as radon gas, we also test for dust mites, bed bugs and other insects or insect matter.

There are several specific types of testing that can be performed with special substance testing. The testing that can be performed depends on the medium that needs to be tested. The following is a complete list of these contaminants and what mediums can be tested for them:
